NEMA Distributes Relief to Victims of Guyuk Communal Clashes

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yola Operations Office, has distributed relief materials to households affected by communal clashes between the Waja and Nungura communities in Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

The intervention followed the approval of relief assistance by the Director General of NEMA, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, in response to the humanitarian needs arising from the conflict. The distribution was led by Mr. Sadiq Abubakar Nuhu, with a joint team from the NEMA Yola Operations Office and the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA).

The relief package comprised assorted food items, building materials and non-food items to assist affected households and ease some of the difficulties caused by the clashes.

At the distribution centre, beneficiaries were identified and verified in collaboration with community leaders before receiving their allocated relief items.

Speaking during the exercise, the Member representing Guyuk/Shelleng Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Kobis Ari Thiminu, commended NEMA for the timely intervention, describing the assistance as significant support for affected residents of the constituency.

Hon. Thiminu also appealed to the Waja and Nungura communities to sustain peaceful coexistence, embrace dialogue and seek amicable resolution of disputes to prevent further escalation of conflict.

The intervention forms part of NEMA’s humanitarian response to communities affected by disasters and conflicts, providing immediate assistance to households facing the consequences of such incidents.
