CROSS RIVER POLICE COMMEMORATES INTERNATIONAL YOUTH DAY 2026, MOBILISES YOUTHS AGAINST POLITICAL AND DIGITAL THUGGERY
The Cross River State Police Command, in furtherance of the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on strengthening police–youth collaboration and community policing, joins the global community in commemorating International Youth Day 2026.
The United Nations theme for this year’s International Youth Day is “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” In line with the Nigeria Police Force’s nationwide youth-focused initiative, the Force has adopted the theme “My Future is Greater than Political and Digital Thuggery” for this year’s celebration, emphasising responsible citizenship, peaceful participation, and the need to steer young people away from political and digital thuggery.
To mark the occasion, the Command will hold a Walkathon on Friday, 21st August 2026, at 7:00 AM, commencing from the Police Headquarters, Diamond Hill, Calabar. The exercise is aimed at fostering unity, healthy interaction, and stronger Police–youth partnership in sustaining peace and security.
The activities will continue with a Youth–Police Security Symposium on Saturday, 22nd August 2026, at 9:00 AM, at the Women Development Centre, Calabar. The symposium will provide a platform for dialogue on emerging security challenges, trust-building, responsible citizenship, and collaborative crime prevention.
The Command invites youths, traditional and community leaders, government agencies, civil society organisations, students, youth groups, and other stakeholders to actively participate in the activities. It reiterates that meaningful youth engagement remains vital to preventing crime, countering political and digital thuggery, and strengthening community policing.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, psc, mnips, mspsp, reaffirms the Command’s commitment to building a productive relationship with young people and urges them to remain positive partners in maintaining peace and security.
The Command calls on the youths of Cross River State to channel their energy, creativity, and digital influence towards lawful and constructive endeavours that promote peace, development, and a safer society.
