INTERNAL SECURITY: BORNO POLICE COMMAND RECORDS MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH, RECOVERS 41 MOBILE PHONES, LARGE CACHE OF SUSPECTED ILLICIT DRUGS VALUED AT N6.5 MILLION
The Borno State Police Command, under the leadership of CP Naziru Abdulmajid psc, has recorded another significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality in the State.
The breakthrough, achieved by operatives of the Command Violent Crime Response Unit -VCRU (Crack Squad), followed intelligence led operations that resulted in the recovery of 41 mobile phones, as well as a large quantity of suspected Tramadol substance and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, all valued about N6.5 Million
BRIEF OF CASES:
1. Arrest of Two Suspects and Recovery of Suspected Tramadol and Indian Hemp:
On 30/08/2026, at about 1423hrs, operatives of the Crack Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested two suspects at Baga Road Motor Park area of Maiduguri.
The suspects were intercepted with 48 sachets of Tramadol and four (4) blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, with an estimated value of ₦550,000. while allegedly attempting to waybill the illicit drug substances to Baga Local Government Area.
The suspects and exhibits are currently under investigation, after which the suspects will be charged to court.
2. Recovery of 124 Blocks of Suspected Indian Hemp:
On 18/6/2026, at about 0100hrs, operatives of the Crack Squad, acting on credible intelligence, Raided an abandoned building in Ngaranam area of Maiduguri upon arrival, no suspect was sighted at the scene, the sum of 124 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was recovered valued at about N6 million.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, while investigation are ongoing.
3. Arrest of Suspect and Recovery of 41 Mobile Phones:
On 30/8/2026, at about 0730hrs, following a complaint concerning a missing Samsung mobile phone and an iPhone, operatives of the Crack Squad commenced an investigation which led to the tracking of the phones to the residence of one Baba Isa Yerima at Kwanan Yobe area of Maiduguri. A thorough search was conducted at the suspects residence which led to the recovery of other 39 mobile phones, with a total estimated value of approximately ₦25 million.
During preliminary investigation, the suspect allegedly confessed to having stolen the mobile phones at different locations.
The suspect is in custody as investigations are ongoing to arrest other accompanist, after which the case will be charged to court.
Following the recent developments, the Borno State Police Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and maintaining public safety across the State.
The Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant and security conscious, and to promptly report suspicious activities to the police or other appropriate security agencies.
Individuals who believe their mobile phones may be among those recovered are encouraged to approach the Borno State Police Command with valid proof of ownership.
The Command further assures members of the public that intelligence-led policing, sustained patrols, proactive investigations and collaboration with communities will continue to be strengthened in the collective effort to make Borno safer.
