TEAMWORK, SUPPORT FOR SPOUSES CRITICAL – GOC 2 DIVISION URGES NAOWA MEMBERS, ASSURES OF SUPPORT
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Auwalu Mahmuda, has urged members of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) to sustain teamwork, mutual understanding and support for their spouses to promote peace and harmony in their families. The GOC made the call on 8 September 2026, when the Chairperson, NAOWA 2 Division Chapter, Mrs Munnira Mahmuda, led members of the Association on her maiden visit to the GOC at Headquarters, 2 Division, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.
Major General Mahmuda stressed that adequate support for their husbands would create a conducive home environment for personnel to remain focused and effectively discharge their duties. He also urged NAOWA members to strengthen their relationship with the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) and identify initiatives that would improve the welfare of the barracks community.
The GOC assured the Association of the continued support of the Division, noting that the welfare of personnel and their families remains vital to the effectiveness of the NA.
Earlier, Mrs Munnira Mahmuda congratulated the GOC on his appointment, describing it as a reflection of his professional competence, leadership qualities and operational experience. She pledged to build on the achievements of her predecessors and work with relevant stakeholders to advance NAOWA’s objectives in family welfare women empowerment, education and community development.
The Chairperson, 2 Division Chapter, Mrs Munnira Mahmuda has pledged to support the President, NAOWA, Dr. (Mrs) Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu in driving the Association to enviable heights. She further solicited the support of the Division, stressing that a stable and empowered family contributes significantly to the morale, focus and effectiveness of military personnel. She prayed for a successful tenure for the GOC.
