KOGI CP LEADS POLITICAL PARTIES, STAKEHOLDERS IN SIGNING OF PEACE ACCORD AHEAD OF 2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command and Chairman, Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, today, 8th September 2026, led other security Agencies, to the signing of a peace accord by leaders of political parties, witnessed by civil society organisations, faith based groups, and other critical stakeholders as a commitment towards peaceful and credible General Elections 2027.

The Peace Accord reaffirmed the commitment of political parties and stakeholders to peaceful political activities and responsible participation in the electoral process. Signatories pledged to respect electoral laws, promote issue-based campaigns, shun violence, intimidation, hate speech, and incitement, and embrace dialogue in resolving disputes.

Addressing the gathering, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to uphold the spirit of the Accord and place the peace and security of Kogi State above partisan interests. He called on political actors to caution their supporters against acts capable of disrupting public peace, assuring stakeholders that the Police would remain professional, impartial, and responsive throughout the electoral process.

The engagement also provided an opportunity to discuss electoral security concerns, peaceful campaigns, responsible political communication, and timely information sharing.

The Command stressed that effective collaboration among ICCES, INEC, security agencies, political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders is essential to preventing electoral violence and maintaining a peaceful electoral environment.

The Kogi State Police Command commends all participants for their commitment to peaceful elections and calls on political actors, their supporters, and the general public to uphold the commitments made. The Command urges all stakeholders to work collectively towards ensuring that the 2027 General Elections in Kogi State are conducted in an atmosphere of peace, security, tolerance, and respect for democratic values.
