NAIS COMMANDANT INAUGURATES THIRD AND FOURTH QUARTER INTELLIGENCE COURSES, CHARGES STUDENTS ON PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE

The Commandant, Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS), Brigadier General David Umaru, on Monday, 7 September 2026, inaugurated the School’s Third and Fourth Quarter Training Cycle, comprising nine intelligence courses for personnel drawn from various formations and units of the Nigerian Army, including a participant from the Niger Republic Army.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Commandant reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to developing highly professional, competent and operationally effective intelligence personnel capable of providing timely and accurate intelligence support to commanders in contemporary and emerging security environments. He stated that the courses were designed to enhance critical thinking, professional judgment and the practical application of intelligence in support of operations.

Brigadier General Umaru disclosed that the courses cover areas including intelligence analysis, tactical intelligence, psychological operations, regimental intelligence and security, as well as intelligence operations at various levels. He charged the students to approach their training with seriousness and participate actively in classroom instruction, syndicate work and practical exercises.

The Commandant further emphasised the importance of collective learning and professional cooperation, urging the students to share ideas and operational experiences while maintaining mutual respect. He also charged them to uphold high standards of discipline, integrity, physical fitness and military bearing, while cautioning against professional misconduct and academic dishonesty.

While welcoming the participation of the officer from Niger Republic, Brigadier General Umaru described it as a reflection of the strong military cooperation between both countries in addressing shared and cross-border security challenges. He expressed confidence that the training would enhance the participants’ professional and operational capabilities and enable them to contribute meaningfully to intelligence-led decision-making upon return to their respective formations.
The ceremony culminated in the formal inauguration of the courses and a group photograph.
