NIGERIAN CONTINGENT COMMANDER PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO KANIFING GENERAL HOSPITAL

The Nigerian Contingent Commander under the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), Lieutenant Colonel Yahaya Mohammed Abdullahi, today paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Kanifing General Hospital, Mr Basiru Drammeh, at the hospital premises.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing cordial relationship between the Nigerian Contingent and Kanifing General Hospital, one of The Gambia’s major healthcare facilities, while exploring opportunities for enhanced cooperation in the area of healthcare support and capacity development.

In his welcome remarks, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Basiru Drammeh, expressed delight at receiving the Contingent Commander and his delegation. He appreciated Nigeria’s longstanding contributions to the development, stability and healthcare sector of The Gambia, particularly the invaluable contributions of Nigerian medical professionals to the country’s health system.

Mr Drammeh noted that Kanifing General Hospital remains open to members of the Nigerian Contingent and assured the Commander of the hospital’s continued readiness to provide necessary medical services and support whenever required.

In his remarks, the Contingent Commander expressed appreciation to the Chief Executive Officer and management of Kanifing General Hospital for the warm reception accorded him and members of the Nigerian Contingent. He explained that the visit was undertaken to formally acknowledge the importance of the hospital to both the Gambian population and the Nigerian Contingent.

Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi further emphasised the importance of strengthening institutional relationships and exploring areas of mutual cooperation, particularly in healthcare, noting that effective collaboration between the Contingent and the hospital would contribute to enhancing healthcare support and overall operational effectiveness.

The Chief Executive Officer, in response, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to providing the necessary support to the Nigerian Contingent whenever required. He commended the Contingent for its contribution to the security and wellbeing of the Gambian population, noting that its efforts continue to be appreciated by the people of The Gambia.

Other members of the hospital management and staff also expressed their appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed their willingness to sustain the existing relationship and provide support to the Nigerian Contingent when required.

Highlights of the visit included the signing of the hospital’s visitors’ book by the Contingent Commander, presentation of a commemorative plaque to the Chief Executive Officer, and a group photograph.
