NEMA, KADSEMA Assess Flood Impact as Kaduna Communities Remain Affected

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Kaduna Operations Office, in collaboration with the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) and other relevant stakeholders, has continued the assessment of communities affected by flooding following torrential rainfall across parts of Kaduna Metropolis.

The assessment, led by the Head of NEMA Kaduna Operations Office, Hajia Halima D. Sulaiman, focused on determining the extent of the flooding, the volume of floodwater and its impact on residents and infrastructure across affected communities.

The team observed that some areas experienced flash floods that submerged roads and temporarily trapped residents in their homes. The flooding also disrupted movement, forcing residents to navigate affected areas with caution.

During the exercise, the NEMA team visited the family of Suleiman Yakubu, 19, who reportedly lost his life in the incident, to convey the Agency’s condolences and offer support. Another victim, Abubakar Mohammed, 17, was also reported to have lost his life.

As of the time of the assessment, the bodies of both victims had yet to be recovered. NEMA and KADSEMA, alongside other emergency responders, are continuing to monitor developments, assess the needs of affected communities and coordinate appropriate response measures as the situation evolves.
