NiDCOM CELEBRATES DOSUNMU-OGUNBI’S HISTORIC ROBOTICS PhD

ABUJA, AUGUST 3, 2026

Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has congratulated Nigerian-born engineer, Oluwami Dosunmu-Ogunbi, on her achievement as the first Black woman to earn a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Robotics from the University of Michigan.

Describing the feat, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO NiDCOM commended Dosunmu-Ogunbi for her brilliance and commitment to excellence.

The NiDCOM Boss noted that her success is yet another testimony to the outstanding contributions of Nigerians in the diaspora across diverse fields.

Dabiri-Erewa stated that Oluwami’s historic accomplishment reinforces the Commission’s belief that Nigerians, wherever they reside, continue to distinguish themselves through innovation, hard work and academic excellence, while serving as worthy ambassadors of the country.

She noted that earning the highest academic qualification in the highly specialised field of robotics is not only a personal milestone but also an inspiration to countless young Nigerians, particularly girls and women aspiring to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

NiDCOM reaffirmed its commitment to recognising and celebrating outstanding Nigerians in the diaspora whose achievements continue to elevate the nation’s image on the global stage, while encouraging greater diaspora engagement in national development.

The Commission urged young Nigerians to draw inspiration from Dosunmu-Ogunbi’s journey by embracing education, innovation and determination as tools for transforming their aspirations into reality.
