NIS DG SHAIBU APPLAUDS EDO QUEENS FOR THRASHING AS GARDE NATIONALE
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports, NIS, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has commended Edo Queens and their technical crew for a resounding performance against AS Garde Nationale in the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament.
Edo Queens made a dominant start to their campaign on Tuesday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. The Nigerian champions thrashed AS Garde Nationale 7-0 in their opening Group B fixture of the regional competition.
The NIS boss praised the team for the emphatic victory and urged them to sustain the momentum in the remaining matches. He said the result reflects the quality, preparation and fighting spirit of Nigerian women’s football.
Edo Queens dominated the match from the outset. The team combined pace, movement and clinical finishing to overwhelm their opponents and secure one of the tournament’s biggest opening victories.
Shaibu noted that such performances will boost the profile of women’s football in Nigeria and Africa. He added that the NIS remains committed to supporting the development of athletes and teams representing the country at continental level.
With the big win, Edo Queens have taken early control of Group B and will be looking to build on the result as they pursue a ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League. The NIS DG expressed confidence that the team will continue to make Nigeria proud
