NIGERIA TO HOST HIGH-LEVEL WORKSHOP ON GAS MARKET MATURITY

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources (Gas) and the Decade of Gas Secretariat, in collaboration with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, are convening stakeholders across Nigeria’s gas value chain for a high-level Gas Market Maturity Workshop.

The workshop, in line with the Federal Government’s policy of deepening gas as a transition fuel, will focus on the next phase of the country’s gas market development.

Sessions will examine ways to deepen competition, strengthen commercial contracting and support a more market-driven gas sector, in line with the Petroleum Industry Act.

A key focus will be the development of a gas pricing framework that keeps gas affordable and competitive for Nigerian consumers, while providing sufficient incentive for upstream investment and new supply.

The workshop is also expected to identify key indicators for determining when different segments of the market are ready for greater willing-buyer, willing-seller contracting.
