SIX AFRICAN COUNTRIES CONVERGE ON ABUJA TO PUSH FOR ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Nigeria is calling for stronger African-led action to address climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution and land degradation, as six African countries meet in Abuja to advance cooperation on environmental protection.

Experts at the event say africa’s environmental challenges are becoming increasingly difficult to address through isolated national efforts.

Degraded soils are affecting agricultural productivity, while changing climate patterns are worsening floods and droughts. Air and water pollution also continue to threaten public health and ecosystems.

The African union, the Nigerian environmental society and the Federal Ministry of Environment are pooling resources to strengthen the african environmental society as a common platform for environmental professionals and organisations to share expertise, knowledge and develop practical solutions to the continent’s shared challenges.

For Africa, the challenge is not only to protect its environment, but also to build the capacity to develop African-led solutions that respond to the continent’s realities and improve the lives of its people.
