POLICE RELEASE 10-POINTS FRAMEWORK FOR SECURING 2027 GENERAL ELECTIONS

At the close of Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers, CARSPO 2026, in Owerri, the Nigeria Police has unveiled a 10-point framework for securing the 2027 General Elections. It notes election security is not only about what happens on polling day, it is also about identifying flashpoints, tracking threats and preventing violence before it begins.

Those identified ten points are:
Full-cycle election security — before, during and after the polls.

An Election Security Task Force — with clear responsibilities and monitoring.

Predictive policing — using intelligence and historical data to identify flashpoints early.

Digital intelligence and AI — to strengthen threat detection, investigations and decision-making.

Inter-agency coordination — one security front, joint assessments and rapid response.

Harmonised Police–INEC guidelines — for coordinated election deployment.

Adequate funding and logistics — including equipment, transportation and personnel support.

Protection of voters and the electoral process — especially vulnerable groups.
Professionalism and political neutrality — backed by training and sanctions for misconduct.

Accountability in the use of force — guided by four principles:

LEGALITY. NECESSITY. PROPORTIONALITY. ACCOUNTABILITY.

The framework also places negotiation and de-escalation ahead of force, with every use-of-force incident expected to be documented and reviewed.
