PRESIDENT OF THE ECOWAS COMMISSION, H.E. GENERAL BIRAME DIOP, AND PRESIDENT OF THE ECOWAS COMMUNITY COURT OF JUSTICE, HON. JUSTICE RICARDO CLÁUDIO MONTEIRO GONÇALVES, ADVANCE A SHARED VISION FOR STRONGER INSTITUTIONS, RULE OF LAW AND REGIONAL INTEGRATION

The President of the ECOWAS Commission, H.E. General Birame Diop, and the President of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice, Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-institutional cooperation, upholding the rule of law and advancing regional integration during an official visit by the Commission President to the Court in Abuja. Both leaders underscored the importance of strong, independent and complementary institutions in promoting peace, security, democratic governance and sustainable development across the ECOWAS region.

In their discussions, H.E. General Birame Diop and Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves highlighted the importance of preserving the independence of ECOWAS institutions while fostering a culture of dialogue, mutual respect, solidarity and constructive engagement. Both leaders expressed a shared vision of a Community where the executive, judicial and legislative institutions work in complementarity, guided by a common purpose of serving the citizens of West Africa and strengthening public confidence in the regional integration project. The meeting also underscored the value of institutional continuity, knowledge-sharing and strategic communication in showcasing the achievements of ECOWAS and reinforcing its relevance to current and future generations.
