FCT POLICE COMMAND INVITES MR. SUNDAY MICHAEL OGWU TO TENDER STATEMENT INTO ALLEGED POLICE ASSAULT IN LUGBE AREA OF THE FCT.
PRESS RELEASE
FCT POLICE COMMAND INVITES MR. SUNDAY MICHAEL OGWU TO TENDER STATEMENT INTO ALLEGED POLICE ASSAULT IN LUGBE AREA OF THE FCT.
The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to a series of videos being circulated on social media by Mr. Sunday Michael Ogwu since Wednesday, 19th August, 2026, alleging that he was assaulted by police officers attached to Lugbe Police Station on the same date.
Following the allegation, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi PhD., FCAI., immediately ordered a thorough investigation to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the alleged incident, with a clear directive that any person(s) found culpable will face appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with extant laws and regulations.
In line with the directive, several invitations have been extended to Mr. Ogwu since Wednesday, 19th August, 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, to visit the Command Headquarters, make an official statement and present relevant evidence to assist the investigation. He has, however, declined to honour the invitations and has continued to circulate videos on social media, seemingly in an attempt to mobilise public sentiment and create undue pressure around an ongoing investigation.
The Command hereby formally invites Mr. Sunday Michael Ogwu to visit the Command Headquarters today, 21st August, 2026 by 12:00PM, to make his official statement and present relevant evidence to substantiate his claims. The Command assures the public that the allegations will be thoroughly investigated and that any officer(s) found to have acted unprofessionally will be held accountable in accordance with the law.
The Command remains committed to professionalism, accountability, respect for citizens’ rights and the rule of law.
SP Josephine Adeh, anipr, mipra.,
Police Public Relations Officer,
FCT Police Command,
Abuja.
21st August, 2026.
