IMO CP RECEIVES FUTO VICE CHANCELLOR, REAFFIRMS SECURITY MEASURES AROUND UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, psc(+), mnips, on 7 September 2026, received the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Prof. I. N. S. Dozie, and members of the University Management on a courtesy visit to the Command Headquarters.

The meeting focused on the security situation within FUTO and its environs, particularly following the abduction of two students on 6 September 2026 and the death of another victim, as well as broader security concerns affecting the university community and surrounding areas.

CP Bosso acknowledged reported security concerns along the Ihiagwa, Eziobodo, Obinze and Nekede axes, including kidnapping and cult-related activities. He assured the delegation that the Command had intensified security measures along the affected areas and was taking steps to address the identified threats.

The Commissioner of Police disclosed that he had also met with stakeholders from the Nekede axis on 3 September 2026, where similar security concerns were discussed. He noted that regular engagement with host communities was important for strengthening cooperation with the Police and obtaining timely and actionable information to prevent and combat crime.

On the recent abduction, CP Bosso stated that the Command was intensifying efforts to secure the rescue of the two abducted students and apprehend those responsible. He expressed sympathy to the families, friends and the university community over the death of the deceased victim and prayed for the repose of the victim’s soul.

The CP consequently directed the Area Commander Owerri; DPO Ihiagwa; Commander VCRU and Anti-Kidnapping Unit to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the perpetrators. Operational details are being withheld to avoid compromising the ongoing rescue and investigation efforts.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. I. N. S. Dozie, appreciated the Commissioner for receiving the delegation and for the measures being taken to strengthen security around FUTO. He called for sustained Police support and closer cooperation between the Command and the University Management.

CP Bosso reiterated that security is a collective responsibility and urged students, staff, residents and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and promptly provide the Police with credible and actionable information that could assist in preventing or responding to criminal activities.

He assured the university community that the Command would continue to work closely with FUTO Management and the host communities to strengthen security and maintain peace within and around the university, in line with the Nigeria Police Force Safe School Initiative.

Ogueke; Registrar, Mr. Chidozie Uba; University Librarian, Dr. Mrs. J. N. Ekere; CSO, FUTO, DSP Patrick Egwu (Rtd.); other principal officers and members of the FUTO Management Team; as well as principal staff of the Imo State Police Command.
