YOUTH EMPOWERMENT/
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT LAUNCHES PROGRAMME TO COMBAT RADICALISATION

ANCHOR INTRO

The Nigerian government says the exclusion of young people from economic opportunities is contributing to insecurity and other social vices across the country.

The government says it has introduced another programme aimed at empowering young Nigerians, promoting economic inclusion and supporting efforts to deradicalise vulnerable youths.

Speaking in Umuahia during a meeting with financial institutions selected to disburse funds to beneficiaries, the Coordinator-General of the Youth Economic Intervention and De-radicalisation Programme, Kennedy Iyere, said the initiative is for Nigerians irrespective of political affiliation.

He noted that economic hardship has pushed some young people into illicit activities in a bid to make ends meet, urging them to abandon such engagements and embrace the opportunities provided by the government.

The Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Nwaobilor Ananaba, who represented the governor, also urged young people in the state to take advantage of the programme.
